The Company’s operating license is for an annual output of 350,000 metric tons of aluminum.

Financials – Key Figures
In 2023, Norðurál produced 310.421 metric tons of aluminum and aluminum alloys, using roughly 25% of all electric power generated in Iceland. The number of employees was approx. 614.
Norðurál's Power Purchases
Norðurál uses around a quarter of all electric power produced in Iceland and we fully understand that the people of Iceland want a clear picture of how the natural resources collectively owned by the nation are put to use and taxed.

Norðurál is one of Iceland’s largest buyer of goods and services, spending over $50,000,000 annually on materials, equipment and specialized services procured from a wide range of local suppliers, from vegetable farmers to engineering firms.
Certified Operations
Norðurál is ASI certified for sustainable and responsible operations. Quality controls are ISO 9001 certified, and environmental and safety protocols are ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified. Norðurál has implemented the Equal Pay Standard ÍST 85:2012 with PwC Gold standard.
