Norðurál and Faxaflóahafnir have renewed their collaboration agreement concerning Norðurál’s operations at the port area in Grundartangi. This partnership, which has thrived since Norðurál was established in 1998, continues to evolve in response to changing industry needs.
The renewed agreement takes into account the requirements arising from Norðurál’s new billet casthouse. The casthouse is will enhance production value by relocating value-added production which has traditionally been conducted abroad, to Iceland. With renewable energy, the carbon footprint of the billet production will be significantly reduced compared to production overseas.
Faxaflóahafnir plays a crucial role in the business and economic landscape of the Faxaflói region by developing port infrastructure and services that efficiently support companies and vessels.
Gunnar Tryggvason, Port Manager at Faxaflóahafnir: The previous port agreement had served its time and was somewhat a product of its era. This new agreement supports the future plans and investments of Faxaflóahafnir in the Grundartangi area. We welcome this step in our collaboration with this important client.
Gunnar Guðlaugsson, CEO of Norðurál: This agreement underscores the evolving environment for both parties since the original contract was signed. We hope it further strengthens the robust business relationship between Norðurál and Faxaflóahafnir.
